CASTING PERFORMERS THAT SING FOR FARCE 'LEND ME A TENOR, NEW YORK

Mon, August 18 and Tues, August 19, 7PM - 9PM, Whippoorwill Hall (adjacent to the North Castle Public Library) at 19 Whippoorwill Road East in Armonk, NY. (please use the Kent Place entrance). The Armonk Players will hold auditions for Lend Me a Tenor from 7PM to 9PM on the evenings of 8/18 and 8/19 (callbacks and by appointment only on 8/26 and 8/27) at Whippoorwill Hall (adjacent to the North Castle Public Library) at 19 Whippoorwill Road East in Armonk, NY. (please use the Kent Place entrance). Performances are 11/7, 11/8, 11/9, 11/13, 11/14 and 11/15 at Whippoorwill Hall. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Lend Me A Tenor is a door-slamming, dress-dropping farce with mistaken identities, mischievous misunderstandings, compromising positions and hilarious situations. It is set in 1934 at the Cleveland Opera Company, where everyone is going wild over the impending visit of world-famous tenor Tito Merelli. But the tenor takes too many tranquilizers, leaving the promoter and his assistant to assess that Merelli is dead. The assistant decides to impersonate Merelli, but the star awakens and stumbles out of his hotel room, leaving too many tenors afoot. Seeking: Max (late 20's-30's): A ne'er-do-well nerd who dearly loves Maggie, dearly loves opera, and desperately longs for courage. Assistant to Saunders. Some tenor singing required. Maggie (20's-early 30's): Pretty and quirky, spoiled, somewhat of a romantic, Max's girlfriend. Saunders (50+): Maggie's father, overwrought, overblown, General Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. Tito (35-45): A life-loving, over-indulgent world-class Italian tenor with a passion for food, wine, women, and especially opera. Some tenor singing required. Maria (35-45): Tito's wife, dramatic, Sophia Loren type, busty, proud, and excitable. A hot-blooded, hot-tempered Italian. She's a jealous, territorial animal. Diana (30's): The driven, beautiful, sexy, opera company soprano (non-singing). Bellhop (any age): A "budding opera star" -- Mr. Wiseguy, also known as the eyes, the ears, and the mouth of the hotel (sings a bit of Italian opera). Julia (50+): Elegant, theatrical, the Chairman of the Opera Guild. Men auditioning for roles of Max and Tito should prepare a short song excerpt without accompaniment to provide a meaningful example of a singing voice. Although singing is much less important than comedic acting, these two characters do need to approximate, as much as possible, operatic tenors. For more information, or if you wish to audition but cannot make the scheduled times, contact Pia Haas at 914-261-4666.
